Ron Nelson Award (220 KB)

LANP congratulates Justin Bennett, FNP who was recently awarded the 2015 Ron Nelson Award. The award is earned by those who display outstanding leadership and commitment to rural health clinics in the United States; and is the highest honor given out by the National Association for Rural Health Clinics.

Justin owns and operates a rural health clinic, Riverside Family Medicine, located in Maurepas, LA in Livingston Parish.

About the Award
The award is a tribute to the life of Ron L. Nelson, who passed away in 2011.  Born in the rural community of Grant, Michigan, he was deeply concerned about medically-underserved areas and their ability to recruit and retain high-quality medical personnel.  Ron was equally troubled by the limited access that rural communities had to both funding and medical services.  Recognizing the need to promote healthcare at the national level, Ron Nelson co-founded and served as the first president of the National Association of Rural Health Clinics.  Ron also served on many other committees and associations with the hope of developing programs that might heighten medical exposure to rural health settings.  It is in this spirit that the Ron Nelson Award is given.
