The Senate Health and Welfare committee will have an oversight hearing to decide if the rule to allow APRNs to treat chronic pain and obesity with controlled substances should be approved and finalized. If they do not support the rule, it will not move forward and Louisiana patients will continue to have limited access to services.
I encourage you to watch the hearing and understand what the opposition is saying regarding this issue. The largest concern is that APRNs will contribute to the opioid epidemic by being allowed to prescribe these controlled substances for chronic pain.
