Message from Our President: Membership to LANP is Vital, Join or Renew at a Discount Until September 1st

Posted almost 6 years ago

Hello Louisiana NP,

Currently there are 6528 APRN’s in Louisiana with 4781 of those being Nurse Practitioners. But sadly, only 1100 of those belong to LANP.

It is time for that to change. I get asked a lot – When is LANP going to…..??

  1. Get full practice authority
  2. Have restrictions lifted on chronic pain or obesity prescribing
  3. Get signature authority
  4. You fill in the blank…….

My first response is --- are you a member of LANP? And my second response is, what are you doing about ______________?

I respond that way because, the bottom line is, it will take every single one of us, collectively, to reduce the barriers to practice.

LANP is a non-profit, volunteer organization. But we have expenses. We have an executive director that is a contract employee and keeps us running smoothly. Our website, meeting registration, and email domains all cost money. And, we employ two lobbyists to help protect our interest. Your membership dues help us to do business.

But let me be frank, belonging to LANP does have some slight drawbacks.  For example, you may be asked to fulfill responsibilities such as voting for board members or volunteering when you’re already busy with other career responsibilities. Or, you may be asked to get involved in the sometimes very scary legislative arena. And, possibly to serve on a special ad hoc committee. So, to sum it up, the commitment to membership of LANP is a monetary one (membership dues) as well as a professionally minded investment.

Now, if you are still with me, let’s talk about the benefits. First and foremost, being a member of your professional organization allows you to be a part of something—a movement – a community – a cause that is bigger than you or me.

Members receive: access to free CE’s at the regional and state level, prime consideration for scholarships and mission trip through the Louisiana NP Foundation, access to members only quarterly newsletter, discounted conference registration, networking and engagement with other members at monthly meetings, leadership and mentoring opportunities.

So, in honor of our 25th conference anniversary, we have decreased the membership dues until September 1, 2019 at midnight. Nurse Practitioners can join or renew membership for $100.

Current members, example of renewal: if you are due to expire on 1/1/2020 – and you renew now, your membership won’t expire until 1/1/2021. Students memberships are at the same low price!
