HB276 Authored by Representative Rober Johnson is scheduled to heard in the House on May 14th. That gives us a little time to reach the House Members. But it it also gives the opposition opportunity -- and they have ramped up their efforts. If you haven't already contacted them, you need to do so now!

If you haven't already - watch the testimony form the House Health & Welfare Committee meeting. We need to let the House Members know exactly how this affects our practice.

Plan to meet with your Legislators. If you can see them in their hometown over the weekend -- do that. If not, plan to come to the Capitol to meet with legislators Monday or Tuesday. Contact BJ Haynes at 225-235-0617 or Keli Williams 225-938-2987 o setup a time and meeting location. You will be talking to legislators along with our lobbyists and other NPs.

Talking Point Guidelines

(Please include some of the below talking points but add your personal experiences.):

This bill provides for access to care in a timely and efficient matter. It promotes patient choice and reduces cost for the patient and health system. Especially in rural communities where patients may wait days before a physician arrives to sign off on paperwork. If we can treat the patient, we should be allowed to treat the paperwork!
It enhances the patient – provider relationship and promotes transparency and accountability.
HB 276 provides efficacy for patients as care delivery and form completion can be addressed in the same visit. There is no delay in care or access to care.
This bill allows for health care providers to treat the patient instead of chasing around signatures for forms. This streamlines the use of the health care workforce by eliminating the need for multiple health care providers to be involved in signing one patient’s care forms.

It is important to remember that while you may not have an issue with signature on forms, there are some of your colleagues that do. And, while this may not affect you at this moment, it may in the future if you change jobs. Please support our profession by contacting your representative.
