Approximately 650 women die each year in the United States as a result of pregnancy or delivery complications. Louisiana is ranked 44th in the nation with a maternal death rate of 17.9 deaths per 100,000. In 76% of those cases, the infant survives. These deaths are a tragic loss for the surviving child and the father, as well as the extended family.

How can you help? If you are currently caring for a child whose mother died within 60 days after childbirth, please contact us about being part of an important study. Participation will consist of two interviews, approximately six months apart. If you choose to participate, your name and your child's name will not be used in any way in the results of this study.

If you know someone who may be a candidate for this study, please pass this information along to them-see attached for brochure. Participation costs nothing, and it only takes a couple of hours to make a difference. By replacing numbers with stories, we will personalize the issue, raise awareness, and identify specific areas of need.
